The 31-year-old right-back, who is also one of Marseille's key players, had to be substituted in the 11th minute of the match between France and Chile (3-2) this Tuesday. It is now known that Clauss suffered an injury to the left thigh tendon and will be out for a few weeks.
This has worsened the already extensive list of injuries affecting the Marseille defense. Bamo Meité, Ulisses Garcia, Amir Murillo and Samuel Gigot are currently out, and with Balerdi in doubt, coach Jean-Louis Gasset is left with only two defensive options for Sunday's match against PSG: Quentin Merlin and former FC Porto player Chancel Mbemba.
In addition to being in the Europa League quarter-finals, Marseille is currently in seventh place in Ligue 1. They are going through a series of two consecutive defeats for only the second time this season, but will try to stop it in the match against the league leaders.
